What the teachers said ....

Did the project impact on students learning ?

"For me and the students the poets visiting the school was so valuable - seeing that poets live and breathe! Listening and speaking with her [Amerah Saleh] meant they connected with a real poet and could see that poetry connected with their lives."

What was the value of meeting the poets?

"I have heard so much from our students about having the poets in our school. Literacy is important to all our students whatever their background and this project has inspired their writing. Thank you Sampad bringing writers into our school."
The Head - Aldermoor Farm Primary

How did it support the curriculum ?

"Literacy, PSHE.  Bringing the curriculum to life is important ... and this project made links across topics - history, literacy, PSHE. The teacher support was helpful.
It was good to have the resources provided for each sessions and we were able to continue with ideas in our literacy sessions and also the inspiration from Gandhi in our ant-bullying work."

Did you feel supported with Arts Award and the resources provided?

"Resources for curriculum links, history, literacy and the Arts Award were provided which is always a help for teachers.
We did some extra linked work for the Arts Award and have combined this in their Discover portfolios."
Year 4 teacher J.Rollason

Peace

Photographing white poppies
while having a picnic

Eating my dinner,

enjoying the taste

And enjoying the happiness passing by

Colours of the sky
with beautiful happiness high

Enjoying my ice lolly, sitting on a chair

and reading the book in the lovely air

Peace for me is white poppies
and a picnic.

"I am a poet now and I'm going to
keep this book forever."
Year 4 student Amal Oma

What the students said ....

"I did not know about Gandhi and it good to hear about all the things he did and how we should "Be the change you want to see in the world". we thought about what we would want to change ... some people did about homeless people or cancer and some people did poems about war and the children in war."

"I enjoyed most being with Amerah and hearing her poems ... she performed a poem in class called 'Beautiful" and I got lost in her words it was wonderful. she has met lots of famous people like Prince William and she is so good she should be a very famous poet.  I would like to write poems like Amerah"
Student Amal Oma
