The package included :

PART A DISCOVER - A number of art forms identified + participation in at least 1 arts activity
Students participated in :
- 3 workshops with artists developing ideas for poems on themes inspired by Gandhi's and "What they would change iin the world from the famous Gandhi quote "Be the change you want to see in the world."
- Voice and writing exercises, shared ideas,
- wrote and developed poems and/or news team scrips
- performed their work
- submitted their poems to Sampad's international writing competition.
Resources included a power-point on Gandhi, an 'Art Detective sheet to identify different art forms through drawing, discovering arts displayed in school and drawing/writing about their favourite author.

PART B FIND OUT - What they found out about artists and their work

Students participated in :
- meeting 2 poets/writers and a Q&A session
- listening to a performance of work by the artists (both live and on film)

Resources included template sheet to prepare their Questions and record what they found out + photos.

PART C SHARE - Sharing reflections
Students participated in:

- discussions to teachers/peers about what they enjoyed/learnt/most proud of
- recording /writing their thoughts

What is Arts Award?
Arts Awards inspires young people to grow their arts and leadership talents: it's creative, valuable and accessible.

Arts Award can be achieved at five levels, four qualifications and an introductory award. The Discover Level is the introductory award open to children and young people aged up to 25.
To achieve Arts Award Discover Level children and young people discover the arts around them, find out about artists and their work and share their experiences with others, gaining a certificate at the end.

Arts Award and Sampad's "Inspired by Gandhi" Education Project
Sampad wished to develop its delivery of Arts Award through "Inspired By Gandhi" Education Project by offering a supported package of poets/writers/spoken word artists in schools with cross-curricular mapping, Arts Award templates and certificate submission. Each school has at least 3 writer/poet visits, a session completing their Arts Award, and a school support visit. Each pupils created a simple booklet from their writings, notes, photos , drawings and templates. (see below).
The package was financially supported by Arts Connect WM. Schools contributed towards the Arts Award certificate costs.

Sampad, all the schools, teachers and students were very proud of achieving over 260 Arts Awards.
