Any comments on Arts Award ?

"We were so pleased that we achieved 90 Arts Award Discover awards.  The  project appealed to us as the resources were provided and we were able to get extra support and advice with extending our work to the Explore Levels also. "

“Amerah came to our school on day,
she came in such an inspirational way.
She sunk deeper and deeper into our souls
And in the end she scored her goals.”

Film Clips of News Team script work

Description

Sampad’s writers worked with the whole of Year 5 exploring issues ‘Inspired by Gandhi’ focusing on the Gandhi quote "Be the change you want to see in the world".

Students listened to Amerah performed her poetry, wrote their own poems and did a hot-seat Q&A with the writers finding out more about their writing and careers. With Wersha the students formed ‘news teams’ taking journalist /presenter/expert roles writing scripts to perform their news feature.   Their news features included a wide range of topics : war and how it effects children, the environment and refugees.

What the teachers said ....

What was the impact on students ?

"We really can’t believe how the poet and journalist have inspired our students in their writing and in their confidence to express and perform.  In class we do explore topics such as discrimination and equality, however the project touched them all and they have been motivated to write their ideas on both poetry and scripts. The themes were very relevant to our students and the Q&A sessions opened their eyes to new careers and opportunities."

"The sessions suited our students very well as all abilities were able to contribute and develop their writing skills. It was good to see and hear some of our quieter students excel."
